Helen Edwards - Australian Artist

<body> Proudly reflecting my Australian art heritage my pastel and oil works are expressions of contemporary tonal realism. My paintings represent my response to my deeply held belief in the beauty of nature and the human form while celebrating the simple joys to be found in the everyday moments of our lives. While fascinated by the play of light and the myriad ways in which it moderates mood, tone, color, shape and texture, I find myself also drawn to express the quintessential links between us all and the world in which we live. Finding inspiration in a wide range of subjects including figurative work and land, river and seascapes I am most passionate about the genre of portraiture enjoying successes at the level of National Portrait Awards. My works in pastel have brought me great satisfaction and many accolades since I began painting full-time in 1992. As a medium pastel has magical possibilities for an artist inspired by the light. However often choosing the alternative medium of oils particularly for my portraits and figurative work provides me with the variety and challenge which is necessary for ongoing artistic growth. I am a member of Portrait Artists Australia, The Victorian Artists’ Society, The Pastel Society Of Victoria, The Australian Guild Of Realist Artists and The National Association For the Visual Arts.
